Organization Description
Mission statement | We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. |
Service(s) description | Girls on the Run trained coaches deliver a research-based curriculum to 3rd-5th and 6th-8th grade girls. The program builds each participant's life skills, wellness and self-confidence. The season ends with a celebratory 5K fun run. No running experience is required! Schools may host the program before or after school. |
Program impact | An independent study led by Dr. Maureen Weiss, an expert in Positive Youth Development, found that Girls on the Run’s intentional life skills curriculum and highly trained coaches positively impact girls’ lives by helping them increase their self-confidence, develop healthy relationships and feel good about themselves. U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Murthy cited this study in a 2023 report highlighting Girls on the Run as an example of a program for girls to “learn life skills through interactive lessons and running games.” |
