Mission statement | not provided |
Service(s) description | Sierra Club’s Seattle Inspiring Connections Outdoors (Seattle ICO) has provided opportunities for youth with limited access to the outdoors to safely explore, enjoy, and protect the natural world since 1991. ICO is run entirely by volunteers who donate their time working with schools that are committed to facilitating outings for students who would not otherwise have opportunities to experience the outdoors. ICO provides the skilled leadership and equipment necessary to conduct safe wilderness experiences, including food, transportation, gear, and leaders trained in first-aid, CPR, environmental education, and youth leadership. ICO outings incorporate environmental education, teach youth respect for their surroundings, and instill a desire to protect and preserve the environment. Outings may include day hikes, snowshoeing, camping, backpacking, exploring saltwater beaches, tree planting and habitat restoration, canoeing, bicycling, kite flying, cross-country skiing, or other outdoor activities. Outings will be scheduled for weekends during the school year in collaboration with school coordinators. |
