Program DescriptionYouth programming: ACE Academy’s services for students will focus on young men of color. They will serve approximately 15 8th grade students in the first semester and 15 7th grade students in the second semester. Services will take place during the last class period of the day, 5 days/week, with a teacher of record present during the class period. The pillars of the program are Family, Academics, Motivation, and Environment (FAME). The focus of the class will be on leadership development, self-awareness, self-confidence/efficacy, and positive identity development. Staff programming: ACE Academy will provide training and coaching to teaching staff. This will include at least one whole school staff training on strengthening capacity to build relationships with young men of color. They will also lead coaching/support sessions for staff of color who opt in. These will occur approximately quarterly and will provide an opportunity for staff to discuss their classroom practice and receive coaching and support, and also to discuss and unpack the challenges of being a staff member of color, the additional stressors and pressure that can bring, and strategies for self-care. Feedback generated in these sessions will be shared with school administration, if agreed to by staff, in order to improve the overall environment for staff of color in the school.
