Program Description | The South Seattle College Work-Study Community Service program is designed to support schools' efforts in increasing students' success and engagement in relation to literacy and math skills by working as tutors in elementary school in West Seattle. These tutors will work anywhere from 6 to 19 hours each week, directed by school staff or teachers. The day-to-day work of the tutor varies depending on the needs and priorities of the school placement site and classroom. The Work-Study tutors program is housed out of the South Seattle College Financial Aid office and supported by a full time professional staff member in the financial aid office who is dedicated to program management including the selection and oversight of tutors. The tutors are paid through Federal Work-Study (FWS). There is no financial obligation for partnership on behalf of the school partner, as 100% of wages are covered by a student's FWS. |
